Tandem Skydiving Over Interlaken & the Swiss Alps

Then the instructor deploys the parachute, the roar drops away to silence, and you get a calm 5-to-7-minute canopy ride, drifting over the peaks and the two lakes before a gentle, guided landing back on the ground.

The airplane skydive exits at about 4,000 metres — roughly 13,000 feet. That is high enough for a long freefall and for the full sweep of the Bernese Oberland to open up beneath you: on a clear day you can pick out the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, the Harder Kulm viewpoint above town, and both Lake Thun and Lake Brienz at once. On age, younger teens can usually jump with conditions: minors between roughly 12 and 15 generally need a parent or guardian present, and those 16 to 17 need written parental consent, while adults jump freely; check your operator’s exact policy when you book. You don’t need to be an athlete — a tandem skydive asks very little of you physically — but you should be in reasonable general health, as the body does experience the climb, the freefall and the landing.

Dress for movement and for the cold at altitude. Well-fitting, athletic clothing is ideal — avoid anything with loose buckles, hooks or dangling straps that could snag. Wear closed-toe, lace-up shoes such as trainers; sandals, flip-flops, heels and boots with hooks are not allowed. It is much colder at 4,000 m than in town and the wind-chill in freefall makes it colder still, so dress in layers, and in winter add an extra layer and gloves. Secure or leave behind anything loose — hats, scarves, phones — and let the operator’s camera capture the jump; photos and video are usually offered as an add-on and are the souvenir most people are glad they bought.
