Best Time of Year to Skydive in Interlaken
When to skydive in Interlaken — the best months, how each season frames the Alps, and why morning jumps give the calmest air and clearest views of the Three Peaks.

The good news is that you can skydive over Interlaken in almost every season — operators run jumps across much of the year. The “best time” really comes down to two separate decisions: which season you visit, and what time of day you book your slot. Unlike paragliding, your freefall time doesn’t change with the season — but the views and your odds of actually getting up very much do. This guide sorts out both.
The Short Answer
For the most reliable mix of stable weather and clear views, aim for late spring through early autumn (roughly May–September), and book a morning slot if you can. Each season frames the Alps differently, so pick for the scenery you want — but whatever you choose, leave spare days in case the weather grounds your first attempt.
Best Season
| Season | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Spring (Mar–May) | Snow still on the peaks, green returning to the valley; fresh, clear air |
| Summer (Jun–Aug) | Warmest, longest days, most reliable slots — but busiest, so book ahead |
| Autumn (Sep–Oct) | Golden larches, crisp visibility, thinner crowds |
| Winter (Nov–Feb) | Brilliant snow-covered peaks and clear cold air — fewer jump days, dress warm |
The key thing to understand is that the freefall is the same in every season — about 45 seconds from roughly 4,000 m. What changes is the backdrop and the reliability. Summer gives you the most jumpable days and the longest daylight, which is why it’s also the peak season — July and August are busiest, so book well ahead. Autumn is a quiet favourite for crisp air and golden colour. Winter flying over snow-dusted peaks is genuinely spectacular, but cold and weather-limited, so build in flexibility.
Morning vs. Afternoon
The time of day matters as much as the season — and for skydiving it’s mostly about visibility and stability:
- Morning. Usually the calmest, clearest air of the day, before clouds build over the peaks. This is the slot to pick for the cleanest view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and the two lakes — and the smoothest ride if you’re nervous. Many operators schedule jumps early for exactly this reason.
- Afternoon. The light can be beautiful, but mountain clouds and thermic activity often build through the day, so afternoons carry a higher chance of weather holds. If you book a late slot, keep your plans flexible.
It Always Comes Down to the Weather
Whatever season and slot you choose, the deciding factor on the day is the weather — and in the mountains the window can be short and change fast. Skydiving only runs in safe wind, cloud and visibility conditions, so jumps are postponed or cancelled when it’s marginal. That’s a safety feature, not bad luck (more in is skydiving in Interlaken safe and what to expect). The single most useful planning habit: book your jump for early in your stay, so you have spare days to try again if the first morning is grounded.

- Best autumn colour: late September into October
- Snow-peak drama: winter, with warm layers and a flexible schedule
- Busiest — book early: July–August
- Always: keep a buffer day for weather
